Did Blogs Amplify War-Propoganda

Did the weblog world do anything other than amplify the pre-war Bush propaganda campaign on Iraqi WMD?  Are we in the worst of all worlds when the mainstream media (our former gatekeepers) buys into a completely false propoganda campaign and that same propoganda is supported online by tens of thousands of mini-Limbaughs? [John Robb’s Weblog]

Considering much of the “buzz” generated in the blogosphere is in the nature of commentary and opinion — not fact gathering, interviewing, and researching — it seems inevitable that blog coverage would amplify what’s being put out by the existing media.

Most bloggers aren’t investigative reporters, and one of the more common formats is a blog as a collection of comments on other items in the web.

Commentary whether positive or negative often has the effect of building the hype, and thus would seem to contribute towards the kind of amplification that “(extlink)John Robb”:http://jrobb.mindplex.org talks about.
