p. “(extlink)Cingular Wireless”:http://www.cingular.com has come up with a feature really helps to tie together cellular and landline phones. The “(extlink)FastForward”:http://www.cingular.com/beyond_voice/fastforward feature involves a small cradle/charger for your phone. While your phone is in the cradle, any calls to your mobile line can be forwarded to your landline automatically. Particularly useful inside old buildings like mine where the cell reception is as bad as the middle of the Amazon.
p. An additional feature of this plan is that for a flat fee (currently $2.99/month) the forwarded phone calls are not deducted from your mobile phone minutes. Additionally, if you have multiple locations (e.g. home, office) you can switch the cradle to one of 3 positions, and it will automatically forward the calls to where you have left your phone.
p. What I think is the greatest facet of this particular feature is the relatively seamless way that it allows you to intelligently route your calls based on your location. In the next version of this service, I would look for a bluetooth enabled basestation that automatically picked up when you entered into range, and shunted your calls to you then. Ideally, it would also work so that you could link your voicemail into a common box (with possibly a menu system on the home line for family members/roommates to separate out their messages.) I would love to end the “I left a message on your home machine” causing me to miss changes in plans.
