GNOME 2.4 Gentoo ebuild

I’ve been experimenting with “Gentoo Linux”:http://www.gentoo.org, and “GNOME 2.4”:http://www.gnome.org recently. I’ve also played around with “KDE”:http://www.kde.org somewhat. While on the surface I find KDE’s integration and the support of apps for common features like addressbook, etc to be quite appealing, I’ve actually found myself drifting back to GNOME for my day to day tasks. KDE is clearly the more customizable environment for the most part, but a mostly GNOME setup with GNOME apps just feels more natural and comfortable to me. I think that GNOME has made great strides in recent versions, and particularly with the new emphasis on reduced UI and sensible defaults has simply proven to be more comfortable for me. I also think that many of the GNOME applications are more mature, though perhaps less integrated with the desktop environment. KDE feels like kind of an all or nothing arrangement, it’s really meant to be used with only KDE apps, whereas GNOME seems more suited to accomodating others (like OpenOffice and a whole host of other projects).
