“The Daily Targum”:http://www.dailytargum.com at “Rutgers-New Brunswick”:http://www.rutgers.edu has undergone a new redesign for this year. While the new coverpage looks cleaner and somewhat more attractive, I think many of the interior pages look less professional and the new styles are inconsistantly applied.
Examples include the section headings where the choice of a drop cap makes the text look uneven and jarring, inconsistant appelation for stories where titles have been both included on the same line, wrattign to a second line, or simply on a second line. The Diversions and Classifieds page are still using the old heading style. The _continued on…_ trailer in blue provides a stark contrast which distracts the eye of the reader. The new pullout quote style spans 1.25 columns, which is visually disturbing as well as causing the column that is pushed into to become exceptionally narrow, messing the justification of the text.
In short, while I believe the overall choice to attempt a cleaner look is good, the implementation leaves much to be desired.
The Targum’s front page looks nice but the Avantgo feature is not working.
