Every Vote Counts

Every vote in every state counts tomorrow. Don’t believe us? Consider these historical facts picked up from the Karen Heumann for State Assembly (California’s 75th district) campaign newsletter.

  • In 1839 and 1842, Marcus “Landslide” Morton was elected governor of Massachusetts by one vote.

  • Rutherford B. Hayes was elected President in 1876 by one vote.

  • In 1941, the active-service component of the draft was extended by a margin of one vote.

  • In 2000, of 105.8 million ballots cast for the Republican and Democrat candidates, George W. Bush beat Al Gore by an official margin of 537 votes cast in Florida.
